What is Fast Charging?

To attract customers different companies have developed various techniques to charge their smartphones fast. Qualcomm has Quick Charge, One plus has Dash Charge, Motorola has Turbo Charge, and Oppo and Realme has VOOC fast charging.

Quick Charge, Rapid Charge, Fast Charge all mean pretty much the same. Except brand marketing, its same. Fast charging was first brought to the market as Qualcomm Quick Charge.

See How Fast Charging Works:

How Battery Charging works:

Batteries get charged when current is passed through them. Higher current and voltages lead to faster charge. Depending on the voltage input.

Power is measured in watts and we calculate watts by multiplying the current by the voltage. The more watts, the more power. The higher the power the quicker the battery can charge. Simple!

Quick Charge vs VOOC Fast Charging

What is Quick Charging:

Quick Charge is a technology found in Qualcomm SoCs, used in devices such as mobile phones, for managing power delivered over USB. Batteries get charged when current is passed through them. Higher current and voltages lead to faster charge. Depending on the voltage input.

The best known fast-charging system is Qualcomm’s Quick Charge, versions 2.0 and 3.0.

What is VOOC Fast Charging

VOOC (Voltage Open Loop Multi-step Constant-Current Charging) flash charging technique developed by OPPO Electronics.

VOOC uses a higher current than normal USB 2.0 charging. VOOC operates at 5V and 4A.

VOOC Fast Charging Versions

VOOC has developed 3 variations:

  • VOOC 2.0, which operates at 5V and 4A.
  • SuperVOOC a different successor of VOOC 2.0 it operates at 10V/ 5A. It charges a two-cell battery in parallel.
  • VOOC 3.0 (2019), which operates at 5V/5A version of VOOC
